Oscars 2013: The Pit's Best Dressed Picks

Welcome to the 85th Annual Academy Awards!

Unsurprisingly, last night's 85th Annual Academy Awards inspired my 3rd annual internal debate about the wisdom of staying up well past midnight to celebrate all that is sequined, spit-shined and shellacked in Tinseltown. Despite their inherent awesomeness, Captain James T. Kirk, boobs and Seth McFarlane have no place at the Oscars. That last one made me super sad, because despite my unwavering love for him and the fact that his awesomeness glows like the Northern Lights that can be seen from space, Seth was as funny and irreverent as a chained dog last night. The Oscars just don't do him justice.

The one thing that makes the whole 3+ hour shebang worth it, though, is the fashion. On this I think we're all agreed, right? And last night with just a few exceptions (ummm... Heidi Klum? Kristen Stewart? What the hell.) the glitterati were as sparkly and gorgeous as they come.

With so many gorgeous looks to choose from, it was tough to choose my top 5 faves, but tough or not, I persevered. Because I knew you'd want to know.

Without further ado, here goes nothing: The Money Pit's 5 Picks for Oscars Best Dressed.

- 5 -

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive
Naomi's gorgeous custom-made metallic, asymmetrical gown knocked my socks off!
And while the jewels were nice, her best accessory was husband Liev.

- 4 -

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen
Salma took some heat for her choice this year and even made it to some of the
worst-dressed lists, but in the humble opinion of this Pit, she looks dynamite.
The gown hugs her curves in all the right places and that neckline gives her
the timeless, regal look of an Egyptian goddess.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta
Amy's ethereal Oscar (of the fabric persuasion) also received mixed reviews on the red carpet, but I am definitely a fan. The pale silver looked sensational against her creamy complexion and ginger hair. The beading and ruffles were ultra-romantic and the jeweled accessories were divine. Truly, she's never looked more charming.

Reese Witherspoon in Valentino
I love everything about this gal and her Oscars gown selection was no exception. The
cobalt blue was a stunning standout (and some colourful relief) in a sea of nudes and
reds. Her mega-watt smile was -- as always -- her best accessory, and the best part was that
her outfit was selected by her 13-year-old daughter, Ava. Kid-seal-of-approval wins my
vote every time.

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture
Charlize just oozes glamour, sophistication and flat-out sex appeal. She's smoldering hot in
structured white while keeping it simple with accessories. Going bare on the neckline was risky but
paid off in spades: when you've got skin as flawless as Charlize, why hide it? Nude make-up keeps
the focus on her naturally stunning features and her pixie cut? Steals the show. Charlize is a total
Hollywood glamazon -- what Tinseltown legends are made of.

Who were your red carpet faves?
